Shell of myself

I look at the WODs every day to see if I could possibly just go to class and with the state I am in I keep coming up empty.   I complained about having to train alone in the past, this is even worse. Training alone and having to work around a bunch of injuries.  My calf and shin are improving but not enough to run at this point.   The wrist needs to be rested so no only lifts either.   I have an abdominal strain so no toes to bar either.  The good news is that my right knee is feeling better.   All in all its depressing and I am in denial right now regarding the Masters Comp at the end of June.  Im hopeful that I will be better in time but I cant see how I will be ready for something like that given my current state.  I am committed to being smart and just work through these things.   Susie has been working with Ben and that seems to be a good idea.

I did a scaled down Barbara today - 4 rounds versus 5 rounds

20 Pullups
30 Pushups
40 Sit-Ups
50 Air Squats

Rd 1 - 4:39
Rd 2 - 5:05
Rd 3 - 5:14
Rd 4 - 6:35

Im trying to remain upbeat as I work through this but its hard not to be discouraged.

A few shots of my leg.

Examination with Dr Rockett

So I finally booked an appt with Dr Rockett to have him take a look at my wrist.  Its been been 2 months since I hurt my wrist at the Shoreline Masters comp and although it improve quite a bit its still short of 100%.  I have not picked up a barbell in the last month and have been working the wrist as well as other assorted injuries.  Dr Rockett diagnosed it as a tear in my Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex (TFCC) also known as the radioulnar disc or wrist meniscus.  It consists of a small, triangle-shaped fibrocartilaginous disc and several support ligaments that join the end of the forearm to the small bones of the wrist (carpals). The disc separates the forearm bones (radius and ulna) from the ulnar carpal bones (lunate and triquetrum) of the wrist joint. The TFCC functions as a shock absorber, stabilizes the bones of the wrist, and enables smooth movement of the wrist joint.

See whether rest helps over the next month and it it doesnt then time for surgery to repair.

Washington DC - Escape Velocity meeting May 6-8

As much as I am never that excited for these internal meetings they always end up being very beneficial.  This one was was particularly intense as we did a full operational review of every business unit and geography.  Guest speakers included: Former Chairman of the joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen, Author, Consultant, and Venture Capital Partner - Geoffrey Moore, Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.   Here are a few shots from the dinner at Newseum.

Sunday Soccer

I was starting to really enjoy Sunday morning soccer.  My soccer fitness had come around and my skills and most importantly timing has started to come back and at least get more consistent.   We havent won a game yet but I still am motivated to play a mistake free two way game.   I am far from that right now but know what I have to do to get closer.   I was a little surprised that I didnt get subbed out in the entire first hand considering we had a good number of subs.

20 minutes into the second half a ball was played to me out of the back at waist level and I played it out of the air to my left side.  On the play I got a knock on the side of my shin and calf but didnt think much of it until about 5 minutes later when it really started to bother me when I ran.   Came off to try to work out what I thought was a charely horse in my calf.  Thats when I noticed a golf ball size welt on the side of my shin and calf was swollen to 2x normal.  I was done for the day and for the rest of the week it turns out.

Busy Saturday

Went to the airport for my 8am interview so I could get my Global Travelers pass.  Once I got home I had a work call that last 2+hours.  That left me with just under an hour to get a wod in before Tristan's soccer game.  Was going to do a WOD that I took from a masters comp from last year but decided to make one modification and it changed to workout completely.

4 Rounds
5 Pushups
10 KBSwings @53lbs
10 KB overhead squats - 2@25lbs
30 Double Unders

The KB OHS were very challenging.  As much as a mobility challenge as anything I have done.

Time - 11:58

Forced Rest Day

Day started off busy and didnt end until after 9pm.  Once I didnt get to the gym at 6am I knew it wasnt going to happen.  Prioritized taking my kids to school versus going to the gym.  Its rare that I am able to do this so i will make this choice every time.

Work has been an absolute grind.  I feel like its all consuming at this point.  Skipped working out so that I could have dinner with my wife.
