Rain & High 60's

The 90 degree temperatures have finally passed through and we are back to more typical Maine weather.    I thought for sure everyone would bag out of todays ride as it was pouring when I woke up.   Texted Henry and Tom and they were both in.  The only modification was to drop out Cadillac from the program.  We all agreed that going down that Mountain with the rain would be a bad idea.  Although my legs are still tired I am just starting to feel better and I am better able to match the accelerations.

Dead Legs on Beech Mountain

Called off the ride to Cadillac (Yes - Kev Willers there are many other climbs this one is just epic) as my legs are completely dead.  Im struggling to walk up stairs at this point.  I need a day to try and recover.   The plan was to do an easy hike and this short hike was probably more than I could handle as I fell way behind Susie and Tom right at the beginning when it was relatively flat.   The good news of the day was that I can check Beech Mt. off the hikes that I havent done.

A very good hike but we did it in the wrong order.  We went on the new trail which was gradual and then came down the ladder trail.  Be sure to park at far end of parking lot and start at that end.

We went to Church on Isleford at our Lady Star of the Sea.  Beautiful little Church but we were being attacked by mosquitos the entire mass as the windows had no screens.  What made it worse is I had the family move to a seat with an open window.  Bad idea on my end.   After Church we did take out  and did a dinner cruise.

Norumbega Mt

It cooled off a little in the afternoon and I wasnt nearly as tired as I have been the last couple of days so Jack and I decided to do the backside of Norumbega from NEH.   My legs absolutely felt like wood when we started and only felt a bit better on the flats.  Good hike and Jack had another strong hike.

These panoramic shots are cool but very small

Cadillac Consistency

A bit later start today as I was riding with Tom and Sam Loring.   This was the first time I have had a chance to ride road bikes with Sam,  I loaned him the Trek and some gear and we were on our way.  Sam wasnt going to be able to go all the way to the top of Cadillac as he had a tennis match.  I felt a lot better today Im not sure because I was more confident I wouldnt get dropped or my legs are coming around.  Either way we pushed the pace to Seal Harbor.  Sam turned around at the parking lot just before the trail for the bubbles.  Tom and I continued on and headed up Cadillac.  We had to pull over to tighten Tom's seat which had become very loosed and were caught by 2 couple from Somerville.   We all restarted and I tried to tag on to the two guys but ended up dropping back.   One of the women was very strong and Tom road with her.  Great push to the top and my legs felt it.

Proof Positive I spent time at the front

Cadlilac and Park Loop Road & Short Wod

Met up with Andrew Kennedy and Henry Fox for another early morning ride.  Fantastic weather - blue skies and temperatures in the mid 70's.  Good thing that we got out at 5:30am to beat the heat.

1st ascent of Cadlillac of the season

Got the call from Henry Fox to see if I wanted to do Cadillac Mt.   As much as I knew it was going to hurt I was looking forward to getting out for a ride.
